October Substitute Birthstone: Pink Tourmaline💖

October has various gemstones that the colored stones industry wanted to promote but only opals & pink tourmaline are in my opinion traditional October birthstones though pink tourmaline is considered a substitute which is to me it doesn't really make sense since opals are readily available & can be worn by both sex while pink tourmaline is quite feminine.
My mesmerizing 1.86ct step-cut deep purplish pink tourmaline soon to be set into jewelry!

Tourmaline however comes in all the colors of the rainbow but it is only the pink tourmaline that is considered an October birthstone as it is the most common color for tourmalines though considered very rare & the finest pink tourmalines can sell for as much as $3k dollars or more per carat!

Opals on the other hand can sell for as much as $20k dollars per carat especially the Australian black opals with red & rainbow play of colors.

Tourmaline is my 4th favorite gem specie because of their incredible range of colors, their transparency, luster & sparkle which can rival the brilliance & fire of natural color diamonds.

The formation of tourmaline gems can be quite interesting as some specimens can have 2 to 3 colors in a single crysyal called bi-color or tri-color tourmaline & sometimes more that is because the way Mother Nature creates tourmaline's beautiful colors depends on the coloring chemicals or minerals available while crystal grows & such rare fine samples of multi-color tourmalines are highly collectible & are usually preserved in their rough forms & are used mainly for display by mineral collectors or hobbyists.

Some of the most valuable gems are produced by the gem specie tourmaline specially the neon greenish blue or electic blue paraiba tourmalines which is rarer & more expensive than most top quality white diamonds!

Though when it comes to choosing an October birthstone I would still recommend opals but having a pink tourmaline is an excellent substitute & in the world of gems & jewelry collecting the more the merrier!

And I Have A Perfect Song For This!🎶
