Amethyst is the gorgeous birthstone this lovely month of Febuary. It is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful gemstones & one of the most popular gems used in jewelry for their beauty & durability with a hardness of 7 & a half .

What's so nice about amethyst is that they can have this expensive look at yet costs very cheap like the pendant (above) with a 1 carat amethyst bezel set in 14kt yellow gold from Oro China Fine Jewellery for only 3,600 pesos!

But did you know amethyst was once the most expensive of all gems? Due to their rarity & vivid purple to deep violet royal color that became the favorite jewel among royals up until the 'Victorian Era'. It was in the late 1800s that a huge deposit of amethyst was discovered in Brazil and so the price of amethyst had plummeted ever since then & it's status as a precious-stone suddenly became semi-precious even though their beauty is desame. 
In fact amethyst can be so cheap that there is no point to synthesize them coz the cost of making a synthetic amethyst would be more costly than buying a finished natural amethyst jewellery! So it means all amethyst gems you will find are almost always earth mined or natural! Except for purple or violet cubic zirconias, so be careful from buying amethyst from unknown dealers & buy only amethysts from a trusted seller of natural gems or have it inspected by a gemologist before buying!

Amethyst is my favorite semi-precious stone and I find the finest amethyst as beautiful and a head turner as the finest ruby, sapphire or emerald! No wonder why amethyst is considered a royal gem coz purple is considred 'the most royal of all colors'.

 Amethyst is one of the few gems people can buy at large sizes for a cheap price due to their abundant supply & you can never go wrong with amethyst coz whatever you do with will always be in fashion & not to mention the violet color of amethyst is Pantone's Color For 2018!🔮

Am I Materialistic? That's a wonderful question ladies & gentlemen! Despite my recent aquisition of this extremely rare vivid orange diamond from Leibish & Co. I don't think I am materialistic  because materialistic people only care the most about expensive things and buying them for the sake of their image. Lost Ancient Philippine Goldsmith Technique

Last June  I blogged  about the lost ancient goldsmithing technique of ancient filipinos that no modern jewelers could replicate that are being displayed at The Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas Museum and Ayala Museum in Makati.  Today there is a revival of that lost jewelry making technique but no matter how hard modern jewelers tried to replicate the old ways of jewelry making they cannot copy an exact replica coz they've been missing something that we no longer have in modern times and I have this feeling that the ancient filipino goldsmiths are using ancient alien technology to make elaborate jewelries.  The granulation technique of the ancient filipino jewelries is the best in the history of mankind!
