December Birthstones

Turquoise is the traditional birthstone for December babies. Most of the turquoise on the market today are fake or resin & real turquoise are mostly stabilized to retain their gorgeous colors.

China has become a major producer of this rare gem supplying 80% of the US market. Turquoise can be found in various parts of the world & in almost  every continents but the most valuable turquoise came from Iran and possess the coveted bright medium blue color also known as 'robin's egg blue' or 'Persian Blue' which can costs as much as $1k dollars per carat!

Another birthstone added recently for December is Tanzanite. Another rare gem that are known to have come in only once place in the world in Tanzania in the african continent. Most tanzanites are artificially colored blue coz natural tanzanites tends to be brownish in color & by heating them they transform in a marketable violetish blue that resembles the finest sapphires. The finest tanzanite can costs over a thousand dollars per carat!

And last but not the least is the relatively unknown 'blue zircon' which is the rarest color of this rare gem. Do not confuse zircon with diamond simulat cubic zirconia coz zircons are natural mineral while cz don't have any natural counterparts and zircons are strongly doubly refractive while cubic zirconias are singly refractive like diamonds. Zircons comes in many different colors, the colorless varieties are used as diamond alternatives but it is not really as durable as diamonds.
